Who does the Christmas shopping in your family & how do you keep the kids from finding the hidden gifts?

Who does the Christmas shopping in your family and how do they keep the kids busy while they go out to school and when they come home(since kids know unwrapped presents must be hidden somewhere in the house so they explore every part and room of the house, till they find the presents, when parents are not around).

I do and I store them at friends or family’s homes. I also tell them that since they like surprises to not even try to look or guess what they are getting, cause it will take away the fun.

Um.. my parents ??? Lol they must have magic powers; I have never seen then g o out to buy presents. I only found them once (no not in the closet), but they were all wrapped (which is good, I like a surprise).

I suggest you buy them when your kids are over at a friends, at school (take a day off work), or at sports. Then, as soon as you get them, wrap them, and watver you do, don’t hide them in the closet! That;s the first place everyone looks, trust me. 😛

Btw, isn’t it a bit early for X-mas shopping ??? lol

When I was a kid both parents did it. The way the stopped me and my sister from finding the gifts was that just before they went out to get the presents, they told me and my sister to look for the hidden presents.

They’d follow us around and checked where we looked for the presents until we gave up an hour or so later, then hid them somewhere we didn’t look. We never looked again because we where convinced we had looked everywhere and they weren’t there.

I do the shopping in my house. My daughter is only 2 so it isn’t that hard to hide them from her. I hide her presents in the guest bedroom. I still have her baby bed crib. I hide them in there and wrap them in blankets. (It looks like there are just blankets stored in the crib…lol)

As a single parent I always did the Christmas shopping.

The absolute best hiding place for gifts was on dining room chairs. We rarely used our dining room and I had a long table cloth that covered the chair seats so I put gifts on the side chairs and no one ever found them. For some reason if anyone would sit at the table to do homework, or whatever, they would sit at one of the two end chairs so they remained empty.

Well my mom and I think my dad buys the gifts for their kid (me) but I’ll usually try to go with them to the mall when I want to buy Christmas gifts and they want to shop for other relatives.

As for hiding I never tried to search for presents because it takes away the fun and the surprise. Also, because when I asked where my mom hid them, she jokingly said in the corner in the basement and that scared me into not wanting to go look because I hate our basement with a passion, it’s so creepy and gross. But I know that’s not where they’re really hidden. I’m just someone who doesn’t like to take the fun away in the surprise.

Well, we don’t have kids yet but the most effective way I’ve heard of keeping the kids out of the presents (& yes, my fiance’s uncle actually did this), is threatening to take back the presents if they peek & really follow through. lol Mean, I know. He threatened his kids & they looked & he knew it b/c stuff was out of place, so he took it all back & they got nothing. Thats a little extreme but if your kids are small enough, just the threat would probably be enough. I never wanted to peek, although it was tempting, because I wanted it to be a surprise.

I do the Christmas shopping for my family as well as doing it for my mom (for siblings and grandchildren). I usually shop online so its just a matter of them asking whats in the box when UPS brings it but they are younger so it doesn’t matter yet. I am also planning on using site to store that WalMart has this year. I say if you have younger kids that aren’t at school then hire a babysitter. I watch my nephew while my brother goes Christmas shopping and he’d do the same for me. Or my mom.

I put all the gifts in a spare bedroom for now.

I do all the shopping except what is bought for me (lol). We have a room with a door off of the basement stairway that I keep the gifts in. It must have been used as a canning room initially but we don’t can so we don’t use it for that purpose. All of our children are teenagers and they would not want to spoil the surprise, so I know they don’t look. However, when they were little (before we bought this house) we would keep the presents in our bedroom closet and lock our bedroom door. We have never had a problem but when I was a kid I looked and was so disappointed come Christmas morning because I knew. I told my children that story long ago and they swore they would never do that to themselves and so far, so good.

My mom does all the Christmas shopping. But we all know what we are getting since we pick it out. I’m older now so I’ll be getting more money than gifts but the best place to hide it is somewhere nobody goes to in the house.

I do the shopping for the everyone else in my house, then point them in the direction of what to get me. Everything’s wrapped and under the tree already and now that everyone’s had a quick poke noone is too bothered about hunting round to find their presents. Must say I’m very chuffed with my latest purchase – a half price fairy bed sheet set for my youngest daughter, she’s going to love it! http://www.finebedlinens.co.uk/fairy-garden/w1/i1001357/
