I generally shop by myself. My first stop is to my own hobby area to see if there is some craft I can make.

I prefer to shop by myself.

I usually go to Target, Khols, Hallmark store, or just shop online. Shopping on line is very convenient. Yes, you pay for shipping but you can avoid all the lines and hassel. Sometimes, and only sometimes, it’s worth the money.

I give a lot of gifts throughout the year…so I shop the sales throughout the year.
I always shop alone and have all my holiday & other gift giving shopping done well in advance.

    1) I have a low immune system so I need to avoid crowds, so I can’t just shop when I want to..
    2) This way if I become ill the week before an ocassion and can not shop…I can still present a gift.
    3) Shopping sales saves me a lot of money so I can give gifts to more people. If I didn’t shop sales I would have to cut my gift lists in half.
    .
I have a special folder in my computer where I store information for every holiday: such as my favorite recipes, gift lists, etc.
    .
As I buy each gift, I enter it (and it’s price) behind the person’s name it was bought for. I then wrap and tag the gift and store it in my storage room.
    .
This way I know at a glance WHAT I have bought and how much I’ve already spent for that particular person for that particular ocassion. I keep old shopping lists so I will also know what I gave someone the previous year.
This way I also know at a glance who I still need to shop for.
    .
I always set a limit on how much I will spend on each individual on my list for each ocassion. This way I also stay on budget.

For me, one of the first stops is my local Military Exchange Store (yes, I AM Retired Military). I like the quality of the things they sell, and the fact that there is no real shoving/pushing, and it is so comfortable to shop there .. that is what I look for when I am going out to find something to send each of my siblings.

Then … I usually go to the hardware stores (like Lowes, Home Depot, etc) for things that relate to what we like to do around our homes …. as well as camera stores (for a treat for me — a new lens, some new filters, etc).

I’m an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree — so there is no one else to shop with me now. As a Long Term Single Parent … I would make sure that the children enjoyed the children’s activities while I shopped (there is always some place where you can take your children to enjoy a day of fun while one shops — just have to look for it). The reason I did this was because shopping with two children (with disabilities — one was a high functioning autistic) is difficult enough most days — but when there was all the new toys, etc out there — it made it that much worse (and I needed to just go a bit faster to make sure that I got everything done as quickly as possible).

This year I got a ton of stuff online, mostly Amazon.com because of the free shipping. . . .Still needed to go to a mall though; department stores for clothes for the kids, and some jewelry for mom, electronics for my brother, etc. etc. . . .Christmas gets crazy. I don’t have THAT many people to buy for, but I tend to also help my mom do her shopping, and go with friends, etc. Plus nobody wants the same thing! I love it.
