How do you handle Thanksgiving when you have horrible morning sickness?

I have to go to two Thanksgiving dinners, my family and my husbands. Has anyone gone through this? I can not handle many smells, and I have a hard time eating anything. I am 10 weeks, so I will be 11 weeks when Thanksgiving comes around, but I am so worried about becoming really sick, any tips on how to get through it???

PS… I have the “morning” sickness 24/7

When you first get there make a joke of it, ask where is the closest bathroom, at least that way if you have to run they know, other wise for the smells try putting one of your favorite oils under your nose like a lavender just smear a little on with your finger it will make it smell like flowers for a bit.

Yes I with you on that one. Smells are not good with me and I am only 4 weeks. Well try to eat a little at a time and go outside for some fresh air right after. Fresh air makes me feel better. Good luck and Congratulations to you.

put some saltines on your nightstand….in the morning chew on a few before you get out of bed. that worked for me and a lot of my friends. take some crackers with you when you go out.

    good luck

yes, i have had to handle thanksgiving while pregnant. it is really hard. the smells alone are terrible. i basically pushed the food around on my plate. my ob recommended taking dramamine 1 hour before trying to eat anything. this did help a great deal. if this does not work your ob can prescribe something for nausea. mine was so terrible, i began losing weight, and had to take nausea medication given to cancer patients for a while.

call your ob and ask about the dramamine or possibly prescribing something.
    good luck

I know you said you have morning sickness 24/7 but i have heard that if you keep some saltines or some kind of crackers next to your bed and eat a few right before you get out of bed in the morning it will calm your stomach and help with the morning sickness, hope this helps, good luck and happy thanksgiving!

i know how you feel i had morning sickness for the whole nine months and alot of smells put me off food and made me sick. Forget about everyone else and what they think you are gong through a tough time and they should be supporting you. There is a medicine called maxalon which can help you from felling sick and throwing up. You will have to see your doctor about this medication but thats the only thing that realy helped me.

I was this way through my entire pregnancy. People will understand since you are pregnant and will be very helpful to you.

Stay close to the bathroom and make sure to get plenty of fresh air.

Also, try to eat things that have substance first. For instance, eat some dressing/stuffing first and let that settle a few minutes and then go on to some turkey and other things. Try to stay away fromdrinking different kinds of liquids such as milk and then juice because they don’t digest well together (the acid in juice causes curdling of the milk).

Also, talk to your doctor about prescribing an additional dose of vitamin B6 on top of the prenatals. It is suppose to help with the nausea. This helped a lot for me even though I didn’t get to eat very much. (I was 12 weeks pregnant during Thanksgiving).

I don’t mean to sound cold or un-caring but you are just going to have to muddle thru this like women have been doing for at least a million years. But I also can say this, I don’t recomend that you eat at either dinner. or eat as little as possible. It is going to be rough but you are very capable of getting thru this. Good luck and be well and congrat……………………………………………………

Carry something in your purse. Wether it’s saltines or those altoid sours REALLY help me! Or, the lemon vitamin water will cure my sickness. See if you have something anything that will curb it.

Otherwise, excuse yourself to the outside porch/deck for a few minutes. The cool air always calmed me down.

Eat small amounts of things that look appetizing to you. Make sure hubby tells his mom how bad your morning sickness is! And, remind your mom too. That way everyone will understand your small plate.

Don’t over eat, eat small portions of food. I know it’s hard, I had 24/7 morning sickness that only went away with prescribed medicine from my dr because I was getting really ill and dehydrated. Luckily it went away in my 14 week. Also be sure everybody in your family (and his) understands you cannot eat like crazy and that maybe you’re gonna need to eat away from the table were you can’t see all the food and smell it.

I know it’s Thanksgiving, but if you’re that sick I’d opt to stay home. No sense in spending the whole time occupying their bathroom…

crackers, boxes and boxes of crackers.

Don’t worry. Weeks 12 and 13 are coming and it’s going to very likely be much, much better.

Try not to worry about getting sick. The more you worry about it the more likely you will be sick…
