Trafalgar Square is the traditional venue but more recently people gather at the London Eye to watch the fireworks on the Thames.

Trafalgar Square. People have been known to jump into the fountains but it’s discouraged.

The traditional place has always been Trafalgar Square, but since the Mayor of London started laying on fireworks the focus has moved to the Big Ben/Houses of Parliament/London Eye area. The first time it was tried, fireworks were along the middle of the River Thames and it turned out to be a rather disappointing damp squib. They learned from that so now there is a more concentrated display focusing around the London Eye, which is just across the river and a few yards further down from the Houses of Parliament anyway.
Maybe the best place to enjoy all that from is the opposite riverbank from the Eye – to get there, go to Westminster station, exit via the main entrance (you should see Big Ben just across the road in front of you), turn left towards the river, turn left again.
