What to cook for couples first thanksgiving while one is vegetarian?

Both of us are thousands of miles from our families and it will be our first thanksgiving together. We will have been together for almost 8 months by the time turkey day rolls around. The only hard part- I am a vegetarian and he is not. So should I cook him a turkey and me something else or what? Thanks.

    Yes…..compromise. Get a small turkey…maybe a turkey breast and cook that for him. Make it big enough so there’s left-overs. Part of the fun is the left-overs.

    That would be a nice compromise.

    Unless your religion strictly prohibits it, consider eating a little turkey. It tastes great, is low fat and can be part of a healthy diet. If you are a Christian or Jewish, remember that there is no scriptural prohibition to eating turkey. The other alternative is to cook a turkey for him and a tofurkey for yourself. He can try a piece of tofurkey. The 2 of you can eat the side dishes and the pumpkin pie.

    From what I understand, it’s traditional for vegetarians on Thanksgiving, but I’ve never made it.

    It would be a great idea if you could go out to dinner…that way you could each order what you want.But if you want to cook then you can make a very small turkey for him or chicken or rock cornish hen for him and you can enjoy the sweet potatoes,and other traditional veggie dishes with him but cook something vegetarian for yourself…say egg plant casserole or a pasta dish.I’m sure that you both will enjoy the pumpkin pie !

    Since it’s your first dinner this is your chance to set this as a tradition every year so make it as special as possible for the both of you. It’s thanksgiving and nothing says thanksgiving to guys like turkey….My husband looks foward to that every year. So for the main course you can have Turkey for him and Tufoturkey for yourself and you both can enjoy the same side dishes together that way you will both be enjoying (YOUR) thanksgiving dinner together. And don’t forget the dessert.

    You should DEFINITELY just cook a vegetarian meal for everyone! Your partner should be respectful of your diet and not expect you to cook 2 separate meals. He should just be grateful that you are cooking for your families in the first place! He will not die if he doesn’t eat meat for one meal. People need to learn to be open-minded. When I go over to my friend’s house who’s allergic to gluten, she makes a non-gluten meal for the both of us. I would never expect her to make me something different. Cooking vegetarian food for people is a great way to let them see that they can reduce their meat intake and still be happy. If you think about it, eating dead tortured animals as a way to celebrate the way we tortured and killed the natives is a pretty messed up holiday. Seriously, he should understand.
