If there’s anything you can make with things that you already have, then I would not waste the money on decorations! There are so many needy people in this world, and some do not have warm clothes or even food to eat, or a place to live! Pine cones or greenery from any nearby pine trees, ribbons, bows, artwork, snowflakes cut from paper, old christmas cards, foil on styrofoam, lace, decopage, fabric, and many more ideas for decorating! Books and Magazines, Friends, and Family! God Bless! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Love always to you!

Look on freecycle.org and see if they have a group in your area. Then post a wanted request for decorations. You may find someone how has bought new or changed decor. The things are free because people are trying to keep them out of the landfill.

I think you tackle this in segments or stages…if I were you, I would start with the Christmas tree. It is the single most large and noticable decoration in your home. I have two trees…one is the family tree and the other one is semi-formal. The family tree looks like a rainbow that blinks! I love this tree because it truly wraps up my life… Every color imaginable and homemade school crafts and ornaments adorn every branch! We even put small stuffed animals on our family tree! It’s a fun tree without all the royal glitz and I love it.
The more formal tree is red, black, and white, with white lights. I threw in a couple of penguins just to “humanize” the tree…it looked a little too much like a perfect department store tree in the very beginning. This is a great tree for the room we display it in because we never hang out in the formal living anyway plus the you can see it from the outside front window. This is another great reason to put a tree in a front window…it has an exterior effect too!
The second area I would focus on if I were you is a mantle of some sort should you have one. Simple garland or pine with battery-operated lights (you can buy these from any craft store or Walmart) look stunning. You can pick or choose a few favorite items (be sure to choose things of staggered height….you never want a mantle with items that are all the same height). For example, I have snowmen, penguins, and a paper mache deer on my mantle. Lastly, don’t forget the stockings… your choices are limitless!
Fun question…everyone enjoys bragging about their decorations! Hope you have a very merry holiday season and have fun shopping!
