What is the point of depressing Christmas songs other than to contribute to the holiday suicide rate?

Isn’t Christmas supposed to be a happy time? Then why are these particular songs so popular and why won’t the worst of them (Christmas Shoes for example) go away? Everyone talks about how the holidays are a prime time for people to commit suicide from depression and these songs that go out of their way to be depressing don’t help a damn thing.

Well these artists are just expressing their feelings through song. If they are feeling depressed on the holidays, being musicians they write a song about it and perform it. That’s how many other depressing songs get written as well.

Well, I make it a point not to listen to depressing songs. I think that those songs are actually the songwriters getting something off their chests. BTW, I think that “I’ll be home for Christmas” is kind of depressing bc at the end, you realize that being home is only in the person’s dreams and that he/she will not really be able to get home for Christmas. I understand that song was popular during ww2. Might have been therapeutic for servicemen stationed far from home.

Its not the songs its the people who listen to them if they get depressed they should listen to more up beat music it is a choice.I doubt any song ever caused a suicide,it is Far to complicated to blame a song of any kind, for such an act.
