What footwear to wear in Iceland for the New Year?

Something warm, the weather is just around freezing this time of year. And if you are going to be out on the streets watching bonfires and fireworks. Boots are fine. You can get away with something like hiking boots with heavy socks.

If you’d like to look like a tourist, wear some heavy boots with thick wool socks.
If you’d rather not stand out, wear a nice semi-dressy outfit with shoes that look good with that outfit. That’s what the locals will be wearing.
