Should I give Christmas gifts to all the teachers at my son’s darecare?

My son goes to a daycare which there are about 7 teachers. 4 of 7 teachers are familiar with us, should we give everyone Christmas gift. And what kind of gifts are good for them?
Thank you very much for your help.

It would be polite to give them all small gifts- candles, soaps etc (probably something different for male teachers…)my parents often gave whimsical pens- my elementary school mascot was a bee so we gave pens with wooden bees on the end. You could probably add in something extra for the teachers you are familiar with.

I would say only give a gift to the teachers that work directly with your son. And if you dont want to give a gift you arent obligated to. I used to be a daycare teacher and some parents would give small gifts (from the child) and others didnt. I would never expect it. You could do something small like a scented candle that you wrap in tissue paper in put in one of those tiny gift bags. Or you could fill a x-mas coffee mug from the dollar store with m&m’s or some other candy. You could do a $5 gift card for the nearest coffee shop (but if you do it for all 7 people that may be too much $$). You could do a gift of a new toy or book for the classroom which would go to everyone–you may need to ask the director of the daycare their policy on donating to the classroom though. Even a homemade christmas card made by your son would be nice. DONT SPEND A LOT OF MONEY if you do choose to give gifts! It is not expected!

You could bring something in for all of them as a group. Maybe a fruit basket, platter of bakery goodies, or bring them pizza for lunch someday before the holidays. This way you are acknowledging the group as a whole and you will come out much better on the cost!

I am so against giving teacher’s gifts for doing their jobs well. The best thing you could do, and show that you put thought into it, is to get them cards, and have your child write inside “what I like best about *teacher’s name here* and then something they enjoy doing with their teacher. It’s cute and cheap. If you really don’t have the time however and want to pick up stuff while you are doing shopping from everyone else. Try the typical coffee mug with beans (you can usually get these packaged in little cheap packages at Walmart) or something like a book for the whole class to enjoy..Or a book just for the teacher like chicken soup for the teacher’s soul..

No, only give gifts to the teachers that are directly in contact with your son for long periods of time from day to day.

I would say make them some candies, muffins, mini cheesecakes – some type of snack food. I am a teacher and I ALWAYS appreciate it when someone brings in something for us to snack on in the middle of the day!

I always appreciate when parents give something that can be used in the classroom (games, snacks, pencils I can pass out at a later time, new calander) instead of another sign that says A+ teacher. Another great gift I got once was a pair of those cozy slipper socks and some peppermint foot lotion 🙂

I teach preschool. I have the same kids each day that I am there. And my kids attend there. My son has 3 teachers, 2 on monday and then one of the monday teachers and another on Weds. I will get all of them gifts.

Nice gifts I have been given: gift cards to Starbucks, Gift card to the movies, a fleece blanket, gift card to blockbuster with popcorn and twizzlers, notepads, big candles….

Stuff to steer clear of: Christmas mugs, candy, Christmas pins….every daycare and preschool teacher has more than enough of this.

I like things like lotion, but that can be tricky……some people don’t like the scents, etc….

As far as how many to get gifts for, just those that work with your son.

    Good luck!

Give the gifts to the ones that you think deserve them. Don’t feel like you have to give them all if you don’t think that they deserve one. And if you decided to give them all a gift…give the ones that deserve them more, a better gift.
