MOUTIERS, France – How is SHOPPING – Christmas, Snow/Ski?

We might spend a day (Saturday) in Moûtiers (France) before skiing.
Would like to know how easy it would be to do Christmas shopping there, and also to buy clothes for skiing. For the later I would like to know if the shops are directed towards tourists or locals.

Moûtiers in Savoie is situated at the head of the Tarentaise valley and is its capital. It is the gateway to the high valley and the access to reach several famous and some of the best French ski stations such as Courchevel, Méribel, Les Menuires et Val Thorens. The town is relatively small as, being jammed between the mountains, it cannot expand, so it only has a few narrow streets with shops. Although it caters both for locals and tourists, it is not exactly a large shopping centre and people who come to ski over the Christmas period tend to bring their Christmas presents with them having bought them in larger towns. Present-wise it has local alpine souvenirs such as carved or engraved objects made out of slate, wood or horn, or dolls in local traditional costume. Obviously there are specialist shops that sell ski type clothing, and hand knitted sweaters, gloves, hats and scarves, and ordinary shops that cater for the needs of the local population.
