How bad is the drive into LA on a typical New Year’s Day?

Anyone ever drive into LA from Arizona on New Year’s Day (Jan. 1)? My family is planning a trip to Arizona, and it looks like our only option will be to drive home on New Year’s Day. We have two young children, so we’re trying to plan ahead as much as possible. We live north of LA in the Valencia area and will be traveling from Tucson, AZ. Thanks in advance to anyone offering info.

    Jan 1 is a holiday and it is typically light.

    Well, you want to skirt Pasadena and all the Rose Parade doings, so don’t take the 210. Stay on the 10, and go to the 5, then up to Valencia. Traffic will be holiday light and should be fine.

    At Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, the traffic in L.A. is what all Angelinos dream about. 🙂
