Why are we all celebrating the first seconds of the new year rather than the final seconds of the previous 08′?
We all break out the champaign and start celebrating at exactly 12:00. Why? We’re going to have 2009 around for like 12 months. What we really should be doing is celebrating the last few moments of the year we will never get to experience again which is 2008. It should be a time of saying goodbye. We have forever to celebrate it being a new year. Yet another thing I don’t get about human logic.

wow. i never thought of it like that before.
i think people celebrate the new year because its kind of like a clean slate in their minds, a way to start a fresh. like with new years resolutions and all that stuff.

2008 got its welcome in the wee minutes of the year last new year’s eve. We celebrated a new beginning. Whether our individual year was good or bad, we started with hope. Soon, (in California), it will be time to try again with 2009. I don’t think we say goodbye to a past year. It goes with us, just as other memories and experiences, good and bad, go with us as we move forward. Life, as we know it. Happy New Year to you!
