Where can I volunteer at an Atlanta soup kitchen on Thanksgiving Day?
I’m only 13, but I really want to volunteer in a soup kitchen instead of having a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I live in Atlanta, Georgia and would really like to find a place to volunteer at on Thanksgiving (November 27, 2008). Any help?
Thanks. I’ve already tried Hosea Feed the Hungry, but they are all taken. It would be great if there was someplace having a specific Thanksgiving event.

how exciting that you are wanting to get involved in the community!
there are a couple of options that you have. United Way of Metro Atlanta is a great resource to connect people who want to volunteer with places that need help. I am attaching the link to United Way’s list of holiday needs/events and services including contact info.
Also, Hosea Feed the Hungry does a huge outreach on Thanksgiving and other holidays, and I attaching that link as well.
Finally, if you can’t find what you are looking for there, call 2-1-1. It is a service phone line created by United Way, and they can can also connect you with the right opportunities to volunteer.
Good for you! Good Luck!

Go to http://www.handsonatlanta.com
You can search for events by date by clicking “volunteer projects” on the left side of the page.

I just got off the phone with the coordinator at “Making a Way Housing” – they need volunteers for helping to make food that they will be serving and taking out to people on Thursday. I’ve never done any work with them before, but thought Id give it a try. You can find them on line and I think they also came up when I did a google search for “Thanksgiving volunteer atlanta”
Hope this helps. Happy Thanksgiving!
