well you can look for tradition of each country ! there must be articles about it. besides, I have found this article posted today on web which is indicating various customs performed by different cultures on new years eve. I found few traditions very interesting which i didnt know before.

In Sweden there is no particular tradition with the new year, but there is some things particular for the day.
For example the turkey is quite popular to eat at new years eve, and then the fireworks at midnight of course.

Well I’m from Ukraine, and there, it’s pretty much like Christmas. Kids gets presents and candy, oranges and tangerines are a must. We drink champagne and do fireworks. Oh and we also watch this traditional Russian new Year concert.
Now I live in U.S. and we have Russian candy, Russian chocolate, tangerines, oranges, champagne, some finger food, and big illegal fireworks.
