How much would you spend on your teen’s christmas gifts?

i realize it’s the thought that counts, that not everyone celebrates christmas, commercialism of the holidays has taken over the world, it depends on how many children one has, how much money one has available, etc…

but for this particular question, let’s say you have one child, they’re not spoiled, they’re pretty well-behaved and you’re married, middle income parents who do believe in buying holiday gifts…how much would you say is an average amount to spend on your teenager this christmas?

Just buy a couple things he/she has wanted over the year. And then adopt another family that cant affford to buy any gifts at all and show him/her what the true meaning of christmas is, and that in my opinion is the best gift of all when you can really teach a child that.

I’m a single mom with one child, I believe in buying gifts, but I don’t believe in going over board, just a few nice little things, so I will spend less than $200 this year on the child. He’s a teenager.

I’d say about 300. Thats about one expensive gift, like nice shoes or snowboard jacket, or a few new video games, a digital camera, ipod, etc….(dont know if its a guy or girl teen) Then a couple pieces of clothes or accessories, a book or journal or scrapbook, etc, and a stocking full of candies, a cute keychain, upgraded memory card for their digital camera, and a package of new socks…..if you shop sales and are creative, you can do really well with $300. And since its only one child, I dont think $300 is too much. But of course, its whatever you have the budget for. Dont go into debt for Christmas. Good luck to yoU!

we have 3 to buy for this year they are older 15 and up so we are just getting them gift cards for clothes around 150.00 each…they love these and it gives them something to do after Christmas to keep from sitting around being bored. Then I just get them to make a wishlist with the things they want the most at the top going down to the least.
Then I try to get what they want the most if its affordable.
This year one wants a car radio cd player … cost 150.00
and a comfronter set at 50.00, thats all she wrote down…I will get her that and some candys and probally a few little items which will make me spend around 375.00 on her.
Then one wants a kereoke machine and a dvd player so hers will come out about the same.
Then the other wants a big scrapbook set and a digital camera so hers will be about the same.
So all total for three teens it would be around 1125.00, plus stocking stuffers. I always try to stay in our buget and never spend over around 1500.00 on Christmas.
    Hope this helps….Good Luck

I would say around $150-$200 but it all really depends on what they are asking for and what the family can afford and feels is a good amount. Growing up that was usually the price range my mom set on our presents and I think that its reasonable.

    Hi,

There is no reason to get so tensed, I agree that commercialism has taken a toll over the simplicity of a beautiful festival. But you can buy small as well as interesting gifts from the net. I bought one for myself and two for my family from a very good site “crazyaboutgadgets.com”. You get unusual and fancy gifts there at a very low cost.

    Merry christmas

It depends on how much money you have and what is on their list. I always try to do one big gift (a hundred dollars or so) and then smaller gifts. For a teenager knowing that their gifts are more expensive anyways as most are into electronics I would say about $300.00 to $400.00 on average.
