How many Christmas gifts for your kids?
On average, about how many Christmas gifts do you buy for your kids and what are their ages? My kids are 11, 9 and 8 and I am wondering what other parents consider too much at Christmas.

I can not give you a number of gifts to give your kids… Because Christmas has become more about what to get or to give than the real reason we have Christmas …….CHRIST the one that gave his life……One gift you need to give them may be the gift of giving to someone they or you know that has little or nothing……Give them things they need and a few they want but take a day to take them with you to the store and have them pick out a gift that they can give to ether toys for tots or good will or if you know of a family that has little play santa to them…

Growing up, we usually did a gift from each person to each person… and sometimes a gift from both parents to each child. So… a family of 4 would have each child getting a total of 4 presents from nuclear family. Much more than that, and the presents lose their meaning, and the costs start going beyond what folks can afford. Now, with a family that has a lot of children, it might work well for the siblings to group together and buy something for each other…e.g., 5 kids will get 1 present each from the other 4 siblings, that worked collaboratively to pick out a present for the recipient. Of course you can do any combination of those, or even do a ‘pick-name(s)-from-the-hat,’ though that one never seems to work well in the long run…lol.
Happy Holidays in advance!

I live in the UK, when I was growing up in the ”late 80’s, early 90’s” we would have piles of presents under the tree from my parents and I am afraid I have started doing this with my 2 children especially my eldest who is 3, he has far too many presents this year and I am keeping some back for his birthday, this year I have bought him the Toy Story Buzz and Woody dolls, a V tech V Smile camera (to stop him using our digital camera;), some moon dough, the V tech Computer with 2 games, some Disney DVDs and other bits and pieces. This is a lot but I don’t buy him any toys during the rest of the year, just clothes so I sort of feel that this is ok, to telkl the truth Jake isn’t materialistic at all, when we are out all he will ask for is a doughnut, as soon as he starts acting like a spoilt brat I will nip it in the bud, Joe my six month old is too young to unsderstand Christmas anyway so I have bought him mostly clothes as he is growing so fast.
