How exactly does black friday shopping work?

This will be the first time I’ll be shopping on black friday. I just saw a CNN article stating that wal-mart will be having some good deals on new tvs.

My question is…how many of an item does a retailer typically carry? Will I be able to go in the afternoon (say, after work) and still get the item i’m after, or do i really have to be one of those nutjobs that camps out the night before?

I want that TV, but it’s not work getting trampled to death over.

No you can not go in the afternoon. You need to be there early early in the morning. The better the deal the faster its going to sell out. The amount any store carries varies from item to item. Big ticket items might be in the 10-15 kind of range. Okay, but not great, sale items might exist in 25+. Again it will vary from item to item and retailer to retailer.

You could look towards online options though. I’m sure the major stores will have some sales online (though not likely as good as the in store ones). And Amazon should have some strong online sales (as its an online only vendor, any good sales it has will be online).

There are other options for sales though besides just Walmart. Sears, Target, Best Buy, and others are also putting TVs on sale. If you want to look through some flyers or sales, check out these sites,

If you’re going to Wal-Mart you’re going to want to go right when it opens. Those TV’s are going to be gone within the hour. Go online and search for Wal-Mart’s hours of operation during Black Friday in your area cause they vary from store to store. Try to get that time off of work and get there an hour to two hours before the doors open (sometimes they let everyone inside so that no one gets trampled). Then go to the electronics section and get a ticket or stand in line.

For the prices that Wal-mart and other places offer it’s definitely worth the time and effort, especially if you need to save some money. You’ll end up regretting it later. I know I have!

You can check each retailers black friday ads, normally they state the limit for a particular item per store. Like Best Buy normally has a limit for 10 per store and if you are not the first 10 you will not get it for the price listed in the ad. Another suggestion i would like to give is some website like Tigerdirect.com and Dell.com have online only promotions, you would want to wait for them to release their ads and you can get a good deal without standing in line. Last year i bought a Xbox 360 for $169.99 online from dell.com which was being sold at $199 in most stores. So its about your searching skills.

If you want a TV in walmart, you will need to be in line at 9-11 PM thanksgiving. The people there will take all the TV’S and computers on sale in less than a minute as soon as the doors open.

Either camp out the night before or give it up. Its just a big promotion and a small savings. Spend the time in a normal sale day and pick up what you want. I like Natick Mall for this – http://www.tripcart.com/usa-regions/Coastal-Massachusetts-Rhode-Island/shopping-malls/Natick-Mall.html
